KATSU:
DRONE FLOWERS
July 31st-September 1st, 2018
On View Tues-Sat, 12pm-7pm
Thursday 12pm-9pm
361 Canal Street, NYC
Between Wooster St and West Broadway @katsubot #oncanal
ON CANAL will feature KATSU’s graffiti drone paintings, created by attaching spray cans to quadcopters, making abstract works on once inaccessible surfaces and canvases. The flower-like appearance of KATSU’s paintings compliment Caroline Larsen’s work in the adjacent location.
A self-described artist-vandal-hacker, KATSU first became known in the 1990s as part of the New York City graffiti community. “A lot of my work comes out of demonstrating and experimenting with different technologies for creative use,” he says. He is infamous for pioneering the use of fire extinguisher spray cans, which allow him to write graffiti on a monumental scale, and creating fictional documentary-like videos of himself tagging spaces such as the White House.
